my first try at memes
I’ve been writing streams of consciousness daily since Summer ‘16.
I’ve encapsulated memories I would have otherwise forgotten (I forget my past quicker than most. I have an idea why). Euphoric ups. Distraught downs. This newsletter could just be me reflecting on my archive. Here’s the beginning of my entry from February 11, 2017 that describes why I started.
Writing is like meditation. Especially when you write exactly what you are thinking, without thinking too much about it.
This newsletter is the evolution of my raw, unfiltered streams of consciousness, a sample of which you can find on my tumblr and medium. Raw, but polished—like a medium rare steak. A slightly molded piece of clay that has been fired and glazed. There’s gold there, you just have to turn your head and look at a very specific angle.
There’s enough content out there for 1000 lifetimes. Lots of it has no value, so anyone with a good idea should share it. And you don’t need to wait until the idea is fully baked to share it, for multiple reasons. First, rawness = authenticity. What’s more authentically you than the thoughts that naturally come to mind? So much of social media is filtered through this lens of perfection and “let me stunt on you.” Show your real self, the whole thing. Not just the good parts. #nofilter
Creating out in the open also shortens feedback loops, allowing you to iterate quicker. The internet is the bicycle of the mind. When you share half-baked ideas, you unlock the entire internet as your personal editors and collaborators.
Another of my beliefs is quantity over quality because quality is subjective. In fact, quantity begets quality. The more I write the better my writing will get. And the best form of advertisement is to make more, which I learned from George RR Martin. He wrote multiple books in the Game of Thrones series, each with 300,000+ words each and continued putting out content before anyone cared about them.
Starting now, I’ll post here every day for the next 30 days. After that, I may switch it up to posting weekly.
So if you want to synthesize ideas at a high bandwidth and take advantage of the collective consciousness of the internet…and be prolific in your creativity, join my discord. And if you just want to see what it looks like in practice, subscribe to my newsletter.
